sub form control visibile property

I have a master form- subform that has several controls that only appear when certain data is selected in the sub form. WHen I create a new record in the sub form the controls appear as programmed. WHen I go back to the sub form and cycle through records I am having problems getting the controls to appear when the criteria that triggers the controls is on the form. I am not sure whoch event to use to capture this situation. If I click in the field and re-select the data, essentailly reslected the same item, the controls appear. Otherwise, they do not. What am I missing here? Thanks, Steve
