I use hairline borders to separate text blocks - a line/stroke 1-3 pts usually. There must be a filter or style I can apply to a line created either with the line tool or pen tool where a can make stylized hairline borders or lines but I can't find it. Any ideas?

Be careful when using Hairline borders. as you print houses won't like them, becuse they may not come out.
keeping in mind that printers have a defult line width, which means anything under a certain point (eg .05) size defults to (eg .05). So it will look good when you print it, but when it goes to the print house it will disappear.

You can apply a brush to any line, or consult the help menu about creating custom brushes. Marcus gives a good piece of advice, so I wouldn't try it on anything under 1pt.
