Is a way to export styles into a file so it can be used with other documents?
I know you can set your default styles prior to opening a document, but I am still figuring them out while I work on my first document. It would be nice to be able to export and update the styles file regularly.

Thanks!

If you have no documents open and make a bunch of styles, swatches, etc. then they will be available for any new documents that you make.

If you make a new document and want to have styles from a previous layout then go to respective panel, say you want the paragraph styles, open the paragraph styles panel, go to the fly arrow (top right arrow at top of panel) and choose Load Styles - then navigate to your file that you want to load from.

If you want to have a document open you have a bunch of things selected, perhaps a text frame with different styles applied to text. Some swatches that you drew and coloured using swatches, a table with table styles, an object or objects with object styles applied then you can select all those items and choose File>Export>InDesign Snippet.

You can then place that snippett into any other InDesign document of the same version or higher (so you can go CS2 to CS3 but you can't go CS3 to CS2).
