Style Sheet Not in Effect

I've been working in CSS as a newbie and have a site that looks cool in local display. I ftp'd files (same names and paths) to a host site and now the CSS isn't doing anything.
I put up a very spare test.htm to see if any CSS formatting is coming through at all and no. A javascript library is working.

Are there any file corruption issues with FTP? I don't see what could cause this to fail, since the main variable is browser, and I'm using mine. I know this is vague but any insight into the problem would be much appreciated.

Would you send us the link?

Strongly suspect this might be a referencing issue - i.e. the site on the production server might not be laid out the same way as your local site...FTP should not mess things up.

It worked previously so it's not file structure.

A trip to the W3C CSS2 validator pointed out a number of glitches...
