I have two WORD docs that are corrupted some how. The first has styles named "Meat, meat list, legalese ". This file randomly makes paragraphs "subsections" or "headers". The spell checker does not work even though it is enabled. The other file has different types of problems but in the same arena. When you click "(B)oldface" on for a selected group of words, it will toggle all the words that were bolded off, all the words that were not on. You can then click "undo" twice and it will turn it all off with the first click and then correctly boldface the original selection and restore the other parts of the document as they were. In this document spellcheck starts randomly flagging/underlining every other word (correctly spelled). If I close the doc and reopen it, it clears up the spell check flags until it does it again, a little while later. Tabs and margins in tables and paragraphs seem to be moved around inadvertently.
I ran everything through a pretty up-to-date virus scan and detected nothing. I had our tech support remove and reinstall both WORD and Office, but it seems to be in the 2 files themselves. I don't consider myself a "power user" although I use WORD 75% of the time and I do use tables, formatting features, forms, etc., I don't know much about setting up styles, etc. I would like to remove the style template associated with these two files reapply a fresh "normal" template. Can anyone step me through this? Do you think I am on the right track with the style thing?. The documents are fairly large and complex so I don't want to retype them. I have tried opening up a new document and cutting/pasting parts from the old documents, but sooner or later the problems regenerate in the new version. Has anyone heard of similar things happening in WORD 97 SR-2? I am on a PC using NT.
Ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Helen

Have you tried deleting the normal.dot file & having Word re-create a freesh one for you; this might be all that's necessary to destroy the bug that's attacking you here.
-Robherc
robherc@netzero.net

*nix installation & program collector/reseller.
