Whenever I'm doing delecate stuff in flash...
(Tracing an image...), I use the line tool...now when I use it it WASN'T a problem before until I noticed this...

Whenever the angles aren't beyond a certian point, it combines the lines into a straight line...how can I get it to have the lines connected, but not turn it into a straight line?...I want to be able to trace my images with utmost accuracy. Regards,

anthony do you mean the pencil tool? how can you trace with the line tool anything except straight lines? and if you mean the pencil tool in the options tab for the pencil change it to ink instead of straighten..also under edit> preferences you can change the default drawing options..if that helps any..

let me know..

you say you are tracing an image.... then you must be using the pencil tool correct? The line tool only makes straight lines which can be combined to make any shape. If you are in fact using the line tool then zoom to about 800% if you need to and you can be as intricate as you like. Be sure to turn off snap to grid.

If you are using the pencil then there are 3 options below the toolbar: one will straighten your lines, one will smooth your lines and one will allow you to draw freestyle.

Am I anywhere near answering your question or am I way off base? Sometimes figuring out what someone is trying to do is pretty difficult;-) Ya' Gotta Love It!

No, I'm NOT using the pencil tool...my hand isn't steady enough to do that...I need multiple LINES because I need to let off the mouse every once in a while...I can't just hold it down and go along, I dont have steady hands (repeating myself) Regards,

Alright Anthony...... calm down! Just trying to help here.

So have you tried zooming in to about 800%? Ya' Gotta Love It!

anthony it is impossible to draw anything but straight lines with that tool..how are you tracing anything?

and if it's connecting the lines is a problem...goto edit preferences and change the drawing tool options..

Why are you saying calm down...I was capping those words to emphasize them...and yea, I did zoom in 800%...

Oh, also, thanks Virt...I think that might help. Regards,

Ok, THAT doesn't help...Grrr...

I am zoomed in 800 percent, and it still connects and straightens the lines into 1 line...my problem is I'm doing a SLIGHT curve on a picture, and it keeps turning my curve into almost a square edge...sheesh, stupid flash...

Is there any way to have a curved line with multiple handles to grab it by and 'flex' it?...I've tried the pen tool but that didn't turn out too pretty when I used it. Regards,

Once you draw your line...you should still be able to get next to it and when you see the mouse pointer become a little curved line that looks like a smile... you can drag the line into a radius. Ya' Gotta Love It!

you can also try using the white selection arrow instead of the black one. Ya' Gotta Love It!

call me stupid but someone please explain to me how you are drawing anything but straight lines with the line tool?

I AM DRAWING STRAIGHT LINES...what are you talking about?

I'm drawing a lot of straight lines to get as close to the curve that I can...sheesh
*hits head on desk*

LOL Dont get angry, I can tell were all frusterated... Regards,

the only way he could use straight lines would be to zoom way up and then use very small segments of lines to create a curved surface. Kind of like AutoCAD... if you zoom in on a circle in AutoCAD it is actually straight lines but at the normal zoom it looks like a circle. Ya' Gotta Love It!

it's a picture of a building, and the picture has an arched border of a balcony...I'm trying to get a lot of straight lines to match the curve as closely as possible...but whenever the angles are close, it combines the two lines and makes it 1 straight line, the beginning coord being the 1st of the 1st line, the 2nd coord being the last of the 2nd line...and gets rid of the two coords inbetween...I'm trying to get it so it doesn't do this...and zoomed in at 800% doesn't help. Ok, I got it...thank god for straighten tool...

I'm now using the pencil w/ straighten, then taking the black cursor and curving it...only little annoyance is that my lines look so sloppy when I make them...lol Regards,

I trace images this way too but you can get GREAT curves using the line tool....

1) Draw a straight line between the two end points of the curve you want to trace.

2) Click on the standard pointer tool. WITHOUT SELECTING IT (the line I mean) move your mouse pointer close to the line you've just drawn.

3) A little curve icon will appear next to the cursor, you can now click on the line and pull it into any curve shape you want.

It means a lot of clicking between the line tool and the pointer tool but the results are way smooth if you do it right.

or to save the hassle of clicking, use one hand to control the mouse and the other hand to press N (line) and V (select) and switch between the tools.
