Hi ~!~

I need... desire... help determining a strategy or "fix" for my video situation ...

My client created several video files in the latest .wmv format (which uses a newer codec). I've tried to import these files inf Flash MX, but it won't recognize them. Macromedia's web site says the following:

"Windows Media Video - Microsoft Windows video format - it is the newer standard for digital video on the Windows platform. Authorware 6.5 added support for WMV video; generally any video that can be played through Windows Media Player can be played in Authorware if it's file extension is WMV."

Does this mean that I need the latest version of authorware? or would this place an extra requirement on the end user (site visitor) to have the latest plugin?

I guess I want to know if I should try to work with these files or somehow (how?) convert them to .mov.

Any advice would be MOST appreciated!

Cheers,
jen :)

You can download various pieces of shareware that will transcode .wmv to other formats. I used the 'Easy X Video Converter' recently to transcode wmv to something Squeeze could import.

I was able to import a .wmv file which is using the latest codec into Flash MX 2004 and had no problems. My problem is when I import the file into Authorware 7.0 using the Digital Movie icon. It hangs up on the Windows Media splash screen. The same file does work on my computer outside of Authorware. Appeciate any help on this.

Thanks
Jim
