Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had any experience using either, study guide and download exam or TestKings study guide and exam.

Basically both are around the $100 mark and I need to further my learning after using the MS Press book and Exam Cram books and failing it twice now.

I'd like to purchase the one which has the more realistic questions. Personally I don't think the MS Press are far from the mark but they're still not close enough.

I read in a thread somewhere else that someone studied the TestKing for 70-270 and the alsmost identical questions came up in the exam.

I'm not trying to find the easiest way to passing the exam because I have put in loads of study time and test on a 2003 AD test forest / network.

Failing twice has left me a but dispondent with the whole MCSE route.

But I will do what I can to gain the pass.

Thanx Roary :)

you've failed the 294 exam twice? ouch!
Don't worry, you'll get it.

I used both the transcender exam and the mspress book, and i found that both, along with my hands on experience & revision of other exams that overlapped was enough to get me through.

If you choose transcender, book the real exam once you are hitting the 850-900 mark!
good luck.
what have you passed so far on the mcse track?

roary,

For most exams, the pool of questions is very large, and the wording of questions can change from week to week.

I have a friend who used TestKing for the CompTIA Security+ (I'm using this as an example of Test King, so bear with me). He studied, and I don't exaggerate, the answers to 425 questions. There were 425 questions on the latest Test King, and he memorized them all. You'd think that with all that memorization, he'd pass, wouldn't you? He didn't. He'd studied wrong answers enough to guarantee failure.

I also have other friends who have taken the same MS exam 3 or 4 times. In these cases, they say that there was very little repetition of the questions, if any. Each exam, even though it was on the same subject matter, had different questions, and you know how complex the MS exam questions are. In both cases, they'd studied only the Test King answers and had to keep taking the test until the exact questions that they'd studied came up. I don't know about you, but three failures at $125 each would motivate me to change my study habits.

If your approach to passing your MCSA or MCSE is to study literally thousands of multpile-choice answers and hope that these same questions will be asked on the exam the first time, every time, then I wish you the best of luck.

I have only failed one exam more than twice (I think???). That was the 70-290 exam, each time I took it and failed I only failed by 1 or 2 questions. After each test I only revised on the areas I had failed in, obviously that wasn't the correct way of doing it. Needless to say after the 3rd failure I changed my method of revision and studied the whole exam again. When I passed it on the 4th attempt I got over 800.

I have found that some of the best material to study for the exams are the MS Press Study Guides, the new Transcender exams (dated after March 05), Boson Tests and ExamPrep tests. As long as you have read the book, successfully answered the prep questions in the book and can pass satisfactorily the practices tests then you should be ready for the exams. I would aim for above 800 on the transcenders.

Wishdiak,

I wasn't looking for an easy way to pass the exam as I have done loads of study using MS Press and Exam Cram, I just find the questions unreal from the exam itself. When I see the v similar questions in the Testking it must make sense to at least read all of these. They also give you theory after most of sections. I can only think this will help me. To be honest I havn't done too many of the MS Press test exams but am going to use these as a bench mark prior to the test and after reading the Testking.
By the way I only an mcp in win2k pro taken last year. Just starting the 2003 mcse route. All this advice is helping though :)
