Stuck in MS DOS!!!!

Somehow my p/c will no longer boot up in normal mode. Even when I start up and prompt the F8 key and select 1 (normal) starup it continues to proceed to the MS Dos screen. It WILL start in the 3 option (SAFE Mode) but not in the normal mode.Using Windows 98SE, Compaq Presario 5000 P/C
Need some help !!

Never mind Tek_Tip. I found the problem . Somehow the MS Dos got entered onto my autoexe bat. I unchecked the box and now can boot in normal mode. Will put that problem & fix into my ever increasing list of snafus I,ve encountered.
