Download and installed WSS from the Windows Update.

The install takes about 5 minutes tops. Event viewer states the the install completed successfully. However, the web site never gets created, there are not databases created, nothing.

Any ideas?

I have all the pre-req's completed, I even tried first creating a virtual server. There is never an instance during the install where it asks for any information, it just whizzes through the install.

I've got a similar problem on my site.

I installed Small Business Server 2003, which was supposed to include Sharepoint. I even installed a separate Sharepoint from another disk.

My web site is running fine, but when I go to
http:\\companyweb all I get is page with that heading. Where are all the sharepoint menus, etc?

What do I need to do to get sharepoint working properly?

Thanks

More info..

The problem looks to be WMSDE. The installation happens so fast I didn't see it the first time. During the installation of WMSDE, it gets down to 3 seconds and then the installation backs out completely. STS doesn't uninstall, just WMSDE. The event viewer has an info (not an error) entry relating to Event ID 11708, which Microsoft has no information relating to this error.

I have a beta 2 version of SPS (SharePoint Portal Server) so I decided to install this and see if it made any difference - nope. It still fails with the same error code.

ANYONE have any ideas here? I've tried this now on 3 seperate Win2k3 servers with the same results. I must be missing something!

Nope, that doesn't fix my issue. I had already tried the released version as well. My problem is definetely related to the WMSDE install.
