I COULD USE ADVICE ON HOW TO STRUCTURE A PROJECT (COMPLETE SITE). DOES ANYONE HAVE A METHOD FOR PLANNING? OR A GOOD REFERENCE BOOK? I HAVE MANY BOOKS, BUT THEY ARE SKETCHY AT BEST ON THE USE OF FLASH BEYOND COMPLEX SCENES. I AM MISSING THE BIG PICTURE ON HOW BEST TO PULL IT ALL TOGETHER EFFICIENTLY.

HELP!

Gusto:

If you need help planning, what you most need is experience and advice, because it is very hard to plan complicated projects without having a very good understanding of Timelines and general design.

If you want to give me more specifics regarding your site and plans, i will try to help you.

Good luck

ferhelping,

thanks very much! When you are faced with a site design project in Flash how do you approach it?

In a typical non-flash site design you have a tree structure with parent/children page relationships and navigation tools tying them together.

What is the same construct in Flash? ie. Movie, Button and Graphic Symbols tier into a scene, then multiple scenes tier into a movie? I have seen examples of complex sites with only one Keyframe in the main timeline. How is this done? Is the symbol>scene>movie structure the best way to assemble complex projects? What are the alternatives? Obviously minimizing file size is a key consideration as is pre-load strategy...

I have asked this question of many and there seem to be no architectural guidelines for site design (which means it is flexible, but it leaves me lost!)

Do you understand my question?

Thanks Again

Gusto

I suggest that since your so confused on the flash site make up that you start off with a combination of your old method and add some flash to it, once you get the hang of it I think an idea will hit you on what you want. It's obviouse that you dont want to make the whole site one flash movie and as far as having those one frame intros or movies, it probly becase that is they're main page and when you click on a link from that page it loads another movie.
Todd Norris
Todd.Norris@home.com
<a href= Personal Profile 2000
Hope this helps !

Have you seen the storyboards for real movies? Well this is going to be like a multidimensional storyboard because the user can actually select different actions.

Make a little drawing of the first scene with your symbols (buttons, pictures, etc.) Make sure that you imagine what action is each symbol going to trigger.

Once you have the first scene done, take the symbols and create a tree structure out of each one of the symbols (well each one that triggers some action). Get the picture?

You can keep creating the tree structure and the diagrams for each possibility and scene. If your project is really big this is going to take a long time but it is good practice and organization.

The easiest way to do it is imagining the movie and using the library while you develope the project. You won't have a real plan before you start but you will be creating the movie and the structure with it.

I hope this helped, it is kind of hard to answer this question without being there doing the diagrams.

Good luck.
Fernando Regueiro
ferhelping@yahoo.com

I designmy movies using storyboarding.

I have a formatted page that I print out and actually pencil in the screen designs as well as the flow of the movie.

I simply insert the name of the movie that correlates with the storyboard into my web page tree, (or design).

I keep the two separate, although most people may not.
Cody ford
codyjford@hotmail.com

VB, VBS, Seagate Info/Crystal Reports
