Strip incoming digits passed from one vector to another

Hi, I have a situation where I need to strip digits being passed from one vector to another, does anyone know a way to do this?

Scenario is that we have an auto-attendant vector that callers are not supposed to enter extensions at the main prompt but do it anyway (they have an option to press 9 to enter an extension). So when someone dials say 1234 from the main menu, the people at option 1 get inundated with unwanted calls. I am deflecting them to a dial by number vector but that vector is getting the last digits dialed, which doesn't suffice. What I want to do is strip the digits out and offer them the prompt to enter the extension again.

Any ideas?

Thanks

take out the command that allows them to dial the extensions

it's an auto-attendant, they have to be able to dial digits. There is no way to take out the command.

or change the recording telling them the correct instructions for this auto-attd

right after the press 1 2 3 etc put a command that says go to step x if digits = 1 for example and send it right back to the announcement

I just tried that, thanks for the suggestion. Problem is its still remembering the remaining digits so doesn't go to the announcement. I really thing the only way to fix it is to either strip off the 3 digits or insert the initial first digit. I'm thinking variables could help me do this but not sure.

ok, I figured something out. I entered a command "collect 3 digits after announcement none for none (basically this absorbs the previous entry.) Then it waits a few seconds and moves onto the next step. This will do :)

Thank.
