String to date conversion

Hello,
It is possible to convert a string to a date type? I want to convert '20020825' to something like this: 25/08/2002. I need this convertion for insert a character type variable into a .dbf date field.

Or
CDate(mid(str,5,2) & "/" & right(str,2) & "/" & left(str,4))
