Running Macola 7.6.200.5, netware 5.1 SP6, Psql 2000i SP4, PWE (workflow explorer), client WXP sp2

Last Wed. some users started getting stretched screens. The first screen you see (PWE menus) is fine. Any other screen you go into is stretched. You can see all the boxes to enter data but part of the toolbar is missing, drop down arrows are gone, the screen goes on and on to the right (you can finally get to the end). System seems to be updating ok.

This was happening occassionally, one user, then two, now all except one Macola user. I tried creating a new user and it happened to them. You can go to the PC where the problem is not occurring and log in as the user having the problem and it is fine. I have gotten it to mess up on all pc's during the course of the last few days..even the one that is fine today.

Shutting down the PC's does not help. Today it was hours before any of them had the problem. Rebooting the server causes everyone to be ok - initially, then after using a while it happens.

I tried unloading Spybot because I thought the automatic upgrade may have done something. After rebooting the users were ok...for a while. (remember - normally rebooting does nothing).

Now a user that had the problem tells me suddenly she is fine.

I have not loaded or upgraded any software (other than automatic XP upgrades -all machines, even the one that is working fine).

At this point I am thinking of uninstalling the Pervasive Client- I have a Pervasive SQL 200 Netware Server and Pervasive SQL 2000 Client SP3 - not sure if I should uninstall both.

Thanks

On the PC's display settings, did you check the theme setting? Try the default XP version or something else.

Can you roll back XP to when it last worked and see if that makes any difference? If so, suspect one of the auto updates as the culprit if nothing else has been installed.

Have you scanned for viruses/spyware/adware? Use at least two different scanners.

Make sure the clients are mapped correctly.

Update in case it happens to you: I have narrowed it to one machine. The machine that was not getting stretch screens is the culprit. I gave her a new user in Macola and that was the fix...except, if anyone else logs onto that machine, they cause it to happen. We are on Windows XP...I could find nothing in the registry that I thought I should delete any user to force the machine to start them over.

I am planning on just reformatting the hard drive on this PC and starting over.

Still no idea what happened to cause this.

Hmm interesting - I ran into this in August of last year - we never did get an answer from Exact, but it went away completely when we moved out of the Novell environment. Here's the original post;

"This may have been a 'one off' but I ended up spending the best part of three days trying to get 7.6.300 to function properly at a Novell site that I recently upgraded to 7.6.300. The symptoms were weird - people would be working OK, then all of a sudden any new screens they opened in Macola would not contain any images (search buttons, note buttons, toolbar buttons), and the screens would be about two feet wide (I kid you not). If they closed Macola and tried to log back in, they'd get Panels2 errors using regular explorer. After a short time, things would return to normal and we could not find any event or pattern as to why this was happening. Macola could offer no solution. We eventually gave up and installed Macola and Pervasive on a Windows server. It may have been an isolated incident related to the client site and NOT Novell, but I thought I'd mention it 'just in case'... "

Thanks for the post Shirley. It's nice to know it wasn't just us. I didn't reformat. We uninstalled and reinstalled the Novell client. Will find out today if that worked.

One thing I did find, when everyone was getting the stretchy screen, the PC that was the culprit was showing these files open that the others did not. macola7.cfg, register70.dat, symsgtxt.dat. It did not have screenw.dll, syfcds.dll or macole.dll and the others did.

Two days and no problems. We had 4.83 Novell client on some XP machines and 4.9 on others. We installed 4.91 on all XP machines.

Seems there was a conflict having different clients with XP.
Thanks for all your input.
