I have an Epox EP8KTA3 Mboard w/ 800Mhz Duron and KT133A chipset. I am using the onboard AC97 sound w/ Via drivers. I installed Win 2000 Pro
in ACPI mode and discovered the skipping problem. I disabled ACPI mode and went to PC mode w/ all of my IRQ's spread evenly but the streaming sound still
skipped @ 1.5 second interval. Cards installed are ATI All in Wonder Pro PCI,
ISA modem, PCI modem and Real-Tek 10/100 R45J netcard.
I dual boot w/ Win98 1st Ed which has no problem w/ sound. I have disabled
netcard in Device Manager in 2000 to no avail. It seems something is polling
the port or ports as the skipping manifests itself also in my Starfield Screensaver
which 'stops and gos' @ the same interval as sound. Methinks Via AC97 driver
may be the problem. Any ideas?

Check for some regular activity in the task manager. Something is grabbing the I/O channel and that must be reflected in some CPU usage.

Good luck,
