Streaming RealAudio files

Does anyone know how to get audio streaming to work with RA files?

I've a RealAudio file and I've made a .RAM file and a .RPM file with the following...

http://localhost/mytest/test.ra

Then placed the following in my page

<a href=&quot;test.ram&quot;>click here to test audio streaming</a>

but it doesn't work????

Any ideas? Am I missing something?

That sounds right to me. Maybe your sever isn't configured? What version of RealPlayer do you use? Look at this for configuring info:

Check with your hosting company to see if they support streaming audio. I think that most do but a lot don't. A word of caution - audio files can be HUGE and can often put you over your allowable file transfer limit as well as allowable storage. Keep an eye on file size and the traffic on your site that is accessing your audio files. There's always a better way...

Thanks for the tips. At the moment, I'm trying to test on my PC using

http://localhost

before uploading to a web server. I looked at the instructions, they say make the following changes to the registry...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\InetInfo\Parameters\Mimemap
Click Add Value on the Edit menu.
In the Add Value box, enter:
audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin,rpm,,<

But... the last folder is Parameters, there's no Mimemap. I can add Mimemap as a key but the instructions seem a little vague. Should the &quot;value&quot; spoke of above be a String, Binary or DWORD value? Should it's name be audio and the Data be /x-pn-realaudio-plugin,rpm,,<

Perhaps I'm making all this too complex, I haven't tried uploading to my ISP web server yet. I might try that first. It would have been nice, however, to test it first.

I'm pretty sure that is the problem. I've never tried streaming from localhost, but I think that it will work just by uploading to the server.
