Guys,

I am in Viruses hunting project.
A friend told me that his PC sometimes is shut off automatically, while his working.

I check that his Antivirus (N**t*n antivirus) is already expired and out of date. So I try to uninstall it. While in the middle of uninstalling, PC automatically shut off.
So I turn on the PC again, and install another antivirus.
I try to use win antivirus.
I set fullscan. The AV found that some DOC file has infected and change to DOC.EXE with 154 kb file. Also found some Trojan.VB and some of Backdoor (but I forget the specific name)

I fullscan the PC again to make sure it's really clean. Then I try to install and using BitDefender AV to do fullscan. The BitDefender found some more infected file in Windows system.

After all clean, I do not know why but I decide to use N**t*n again. So I install it. after that I click on an update file. But the problem comes again. The PC shut off..........!

Then I back on and I decide to uninstall the N**t*n, but when I push the remove all button, the PC shut off.
I try to turn on but when it's reach the BIOS menu, it's stopped.

Please help me with this......

Will it start in Safe Mode? If so disable Norton from starting via these articles.

Return to Normal Mode and then try uninstalling that Norton. Or try this Removal Tool.

Using the Norton Removal Tool

You can also turn off "automatically restart after an error" so it will just halt at the fault and display the full Stop Error and blue screen.

Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties .
On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery .
Click to clear the Automatically restart check box under System failure , and then click OK . The error message on a blue screen should remain on the screen so you can record the error information.

After using the Norton Removal Tool, you can also download/install/update NOD32(trial). NOD will want you to uninstall all other AV products. Run it from safe mode. I've had very good luck with that.

But how will he do either of those if he cant get past the BIOS?

Sorry for misreading your original post. If you can't get past the Bios there is not much anyone can do for you, it may be a job for a computer repair shop.

Are you getting any warning beeps from the computer before it stops?

Can you at least enter the Bios Setup and try setting the Bios to the Safe Default setting and see if it will then boot?

If the PC can't get past post/bios that would lead me to believe a hardware problem more than a software one. My first thought was not a virus (even after reading the entire description about all of them) but CPU overheating or bad power supply. Could be a cowinkidink that it happend right after an uninstall of Norton. Norton sucks for a virus scan. Just my opinion.

BIOS virus are pretty rare. But stranger things have happened.

Cheers
Rob
