I have a Blue & White G3 server with an Adaptec 2940U2B single channel PCI SCSI adapter in it.
For the past 2 years we've had a DLT8000 hooked up to it so that we can backup Desktop PC's and Mac's using Retrospect software. It works great. The hardrive is SCSI and is setup as ID 0.
I recently obtained another DLT8000 and I daisy-chained it to the 1st one. If I only turn on the original tape drive, it displays as being ID 5. If I only turn on the 2nd tape drive, it displays as ID 5 no matter what I set the ID selector to. I removed the cover off of the 1st drive, removed the ID selector cable and manually set the jumper so that it is ID 1. When I boot up, the drive still displays as ID 5 !!!!
I cannot turn both drives on at the same time. They both end up being ID 5 and therefore both do not show up and the server often freezes at this point.
I've got the latest firmware upgrade (v1.1) installed and I'm running OS 8.6 on the server with Retrospect Server 4.3
Dantz (Retrospect) told me that it's not their software doing this. They said that I should be able to see the drives without Retrospect being installed.
I downloaded SCSI Probe 5.2 from Adaptec and it shows me the same info as Apple System Profiler.
I can find no information on Apple's support site and cannot find anything on the internet pertaining to this. John Trembly
