Strange resolutions

I have an IBM T-41 running Debian Sarge (originally installed via Knoppix)

It's a 1400x1050 but I'm running at 1280x1024

Given that this is a non-standard resolution, is there anyway I can get support for it? I'm no export in this stuff, and have checked tuxmobil.org with no luck yet.

You may change your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.
A technical manual of your display should be at hand
But you may damage your machine, so I would search for someone first, who announces success.
