Hello:

I upgraded to XP a few months ago, and my Laserjet 4P now prints strange character strings in random locations on my documents. Sometimes the characters are in blank space in the document, other times it overlays my text.

Some examples of the character strings are:
375X
p3073X.
2167X
s10v1P.

It is random with respect to where it shows up on the page. Printing the same document several times in a row results in differnet characters in different places.

I have the latest HP driver installed, and they no longer offer any support for this printer. Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,
Yukon

think you miht be printing with the Postscript driver instead of the regular driver. Had the same problem with a Laserjet 5MP. XP tends to load the Postscript driver for any detected printer by default. Check the HP site again for the PCL5 driver and if that doesn't work, try a website like downloads.com for your driver!
Happy Holidays!
