Hi guys .. nice to see that there a still a few netware techies arround .. ;)

I have the following problem ..
It's on a netware 4.11 server, Volumes support long,dos

Lets see if i can explain ... in some directorys .. not very deep eg:

f:\data\excell\DATA2000,
\DATA2001

i run into the problem when i wanted to create a directory called DATA2002
i couldn't create the directory DATA2002 but
i could create a directory DATA2002X and then rename it to DATA2000 ???

if i look in the nwadmin i could see that the directory DATA2001 had a 'long'name of data2001 but the 'dos'name was
DATA2002

I runned DSREPAIR, and VREAPAIR to check/fix my volumes but the didn't found any errors ..

Any guesses what happened.

WOW :) That's all I got to say about that...

I was going to tell you to run VRepair on the volume but seeing that you already did that I don't have an answer for you. If you go in now and view the directory does the same still exist? What about deleting the directory, running vrepair then recreate the directory then viewing the directory entries? Could be the table is messed up, deleting the directory the running vrepair may take care of the issue and readjust the pointers. Of course this is a shot in the dark, never had that problem before....

*end users are just like computers, some you can work with...others just need a simple reBOOTing to fix their problems.*

Thank you for your reply :)

I deleted the directories had to use the nwadmin because explorer saw the directoy ... (but not in the directory pane on the left) <grin>
and then i recreated them

This fixed the dos, long name problems .. but now if some of my clients (who are using the win2k internal client)

Can create a file .... work in it .. but not save (sometimes)
But thats a different problem ..
Well if somebody else might know a thing let me know

:)

Have a nice day fellow admin's & techies

What SP is the server running and what version of the client are the workstations running? -----------------------------------------------------
"It's true, its damn true!"
-----------------------------------------------------

SP9 ... and the newest versions of the clients ..

But the nice thing is the server is gonna be replaced for a more up-to-date machine so no hurries .. i'll check it out later .. :)
