i am in the myst of below scenario...

- laptop with built-in 802.11g and window vista.
- it works with my neighbor's unsecured router.
- but it does not work with my own WEP router.
- then i reset my router to unsecured and my laptop still won't connect to it. (error message is like cannot receive data from router or something like that...)
- on the other hand, my desktop works fine with my router either wep or unsecured setup.

since my desktop works fine with my router, either setups, i assume there is no router issue.

the wireless card in my laptop works since my laptop connects to my neighbor's router successfully.

then why my laptop does not work with my router regardless wep or not?

any clue? Thanks a lot!

i did not and i also double checked and there is no mac filter enabled.

i call HP, my laptop, tech support and they said linksys is what they verified router and mine is DLink so he recommended me to buy a linksys one. i am very disappointed with such response. i also downloaded hp's wireless driver and reboot it and still it does not link to my Dlink router.

any suggestion? will a linksys router work with my hp pavilon dv6000 laptop?

What model dlink router and have you looked for a firmware update?
Some routers are not Vista compatible, but most router manufacturers have put out new firmware to try making the older routers Vista compatible.
The link below is to dlinks article on what routers are vista compatible and has links to firware updates if available.

When you indicate that it does not work, what exactly is it doing? Does it not connect at all? Can it see the router? Does it connect to the router but can't get on the Internet?

Have you checked to see if you are getting an IP address and gateway from the router? (IPCONFIG /ALL) Can you ping the router address?

I don't see how a Linksys or DLink router is going to make any difference. I have used both.

Thanks for all great inputs. I finally got it resolved. The problem was removed by updating firmware of my DI-524 router.

Once again, thank you all for your great inputs, Have a nice day!
