After installing SP2 on winXP SP1 I left automatic updates on, and after automatic installation one of it my comp. asked me to restart machine... After that my computer boots, running for 10 sec with "Windows XP" screen and then blue screen for second and restart... Same in safe mode! SO no chance for me to boot my WinXP!

Second, I cant boot from bootable WinXP cd, it asks me regulary to pres any key if I want to boot from cd, after that only for second it shows a "Setup is inspecting your computer hardware" (I think this is a text :) and everything stops with blank screen! I thougth it's because of LILO (I have linux on other partition) so I remove it booting from win98 startup disc (on CD) with fdisk /mbr but steal cant boot from winXP cd... same problem as before!

My WinXP partition is NTFS so I cant see it when I boot from win98 system disc!

So I can't boot my WinXP, I can't boot system from WinXP cd to reinstal or repair system!

Problem is on notebook Fujitsu-Siemens AMILO A7640
Everything works fine with linux, so it's not hardware. Also I had this problem booting from WinXP cd (I tried 3 different cd's) before and only what helps is FDISK and new partitions! Maby linux mess with something?!?

ANY IDEA?! PLEASE HELP!!!

Are you able to access the receovery console? Sometimes this is a boot option. If you are run a 'chkdsk /r'

'When all else fails.......read the manual'

NO, I can't access recovery console :( Thats the part "Setup is inspecting your computer hardware" and after that some options should show, including RC, but not now in my case!

I can boot only from win 98 startup disc, but all my partitions are NTFS or linux partitions so I can't see any of them

here's what you may have to do. of course you have to copy your files somehow to a backup location, if you want them saved. this process always works.

start your machine with 98 boot disk
after win98 comes up, enter fdisk
display partition(s) (if any)
delete partition(s)
create new partition
restart
format the hard disk
turn pc off
take win98 boot disk out
put xp cd in the cd rom drive
turn pc on
get into bios
go to boot sequence and choose "boot from cd first"
save bios, exit.
let xp install.

Some laptops are very finiky beasts. I had a problem similar to yours on a Toshiba. What I did, was download and flash with the latest BIOS, and the laptop was good to go again. Don't know if this will work in your case, but it's worth a try.
