Strange problem. Word, DDE, Cache...?

I understand that this might not be the right thread...

Microsoft XP Professional Version 2002 SP2
Microsoft Word 2003 11.6.. SP2

This one has me stumped. I have an application that opens up a DDE connection with Microsoft word that populates database information in the header of a word form at the appropriate bookmarks. This has worked fine on all the computers I have used it on for years. I now have two computers running word 2003. An attempt to 'auto fill'the approriate form from my application will result in one of the following conditions.

word opens and....

1. Nothing will populate and word will idle
2. The form will populate terribly slow
3. The form will populate slow...but you can speed it up by moving the mouse around the screen quickly, or scrolling the mouse wheel up and down (IS THIS A CACHE ISSUE?)
4. All is ok, but the linked images for logos do not show up.
5. Everything works great

I hope this is enough information to help gather some ideas.

Thanks

Jay

Are you using late or early binding?
