Hey guys....speel checker is working with all programs in MS offce 2007 except Word...i have all the proofing settings but it is like the dictionary isnt even there. It says the spell check is complete when i have left totally obviously mispelled words in the text....tried reinstalling the program...nothing....weird thing is, it works in all the other programs, (excel, outlook, etc)....anybody have an idea?

This is probably not the answer but you can look anyway.

Tools > Language > Set Language

uncheck the box "Do not check spelling" (of selected text)

Also click the ? (upper right in the language window) then click the "Do Not Check Spelling" box for a complete explanation of what this option does.

Thanks, but as far as I can see there is not even a "tools" menu in office 2007. I DID check the lauguage settings in the proofing area and found that the box you speak of is not checked. Thanks for the attempt...i appreciate it:)

I'm afraid there are a few possible explanations. Your description suggests that "do not check spelling" is set (perhaps in a style).

Alternatively, maybe the document language is wrong. The Tools menu is no more but you can still use the keyboard Alt+T,L,L to get the language dialogue - or (as you have discovered) it is available from the Proofing group on the Review tab. The current language can also be displayed on the status bar, and clicking it will also bring up the dialogue.

Enjoy,
Tony

We want to help you; help us to do it by reading this: Before you ask a question.

I'm working (slowly) on my own website

I had similar probelm with Office, these 2 fixes worked.
This:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\SharedTools\
ProofingTools\1.0\Override\en-US
There should be at least two files in the folder in addition to the default shown. Delete all files except the default, which cannot be deleted.

and this:
Delete the registry key “Word” located at:
KEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\
Word.
Launch Word 2007 and it will rebuild the key.

***PLEASE backup your registry first, just in case.
