Strange problem in installing Netgear 54g

This is a strange one when I installed Netgear 54g wireless router:

The installation process seems fine but my laptop can't see available networks even clicking "refersh network list". So I changed to another laptop, no such problem and everything works perfect. I have set up access list on the router with the first laptop's MAC (basically I followed the same procedure with the two laptops). Does anyone have experience on this?

And if MAC authentication is disabled, what happens?
If you are worried about security, MAC authentication is fairly week, ableit stronger than using just WEP alone.

Use WPA2.

And install the new Wireless Client Update for XP:
