strange NIS issue

I have a server which is a NIS client and when i login as a particlar user and run groups it lists all the groups that this user is in. So i then type newgrp <new_group> and it comes back with:-

newgrp: Sorry

the strange thing that this works on all my other servers within NIS.

Any ideas?
