Out of the blue, each time I clicked on the icon "my computer" on the desk top, the popped-up window was blank ( i.e. no drives shown at all ) . The system seemed to freeze . When I tried to close the window , an error message appeared : "Windows cannot find '/idlist, :376:264 ...."

Then the system froze completely and I had to restart the PC to get going again. I can still function if I do not access "my computer " ! The minute I need to open "my compputer" for accessing another drive, the same error massage again !

I did the followings :
_Repaired Windows XP Pro SP3 ( which is the current O/S installed im my PC)
_Ran a virus check using the latest Kaspersky Antivirus and no virus was found !

Please advise how to fix this puzzling issue . Thanks...

(My PC : MSI 6728 Mobo, Celeron 2.4 Mhz; Windows XP Pro SP3 )

Thanks linney for all these precious infos. I'll digest them then try out to see...

_I followed some suggestions in the infos but ...Alas ! none of them was help to solve the issue . Finally, I got to go for the ultimate solution : to reformat the Windows-XP-Pro contained drive and re-install Windows from sratch. So far , it solved my problem alright but it was pure hell re-installing drivers & softwares !!

Thanks again for the ever kind & compassionate Sir linney !

Best regards,

too late now but you could have tried an in place re-install of windows.

Already done. zooco, this is a perfect time to put together a driver disk along with a list of applications you installed so you will have it when...not if...you need to re-load. I have a "to-do" list along with all my drivers on CD, I also have all the voice prompts memorized as needed for re-activation...

sggaunt : Thanks. But that's the first thing I did : just repair the in-situ Windows O/S . It did not work in this case .

wahnula: That's a great idea ! I recently came across a program called "Driver Genius Pro v8.0.0.316" which essentially did what you said (i.e. save all installed drivers on a CD and provide an option to re-install automatically ) . Unfortunately, it's a shareware... :-(

Thanks,

Best regards to you all !
