Sometimes when typing either the E, R, D or F key, (small case only, upper case is normal) different windows functions pop up.

Mind you, NO OTHER KEYS ARE STUCK and this is after swapping out keyboards.

The E key opens up Explore.

The F key opens up Find Files

The R key restores minimized files.

The D swaps from one minimized application to another.

This is happening on at least two different PC's here in the office. One PC does it at least 6 or 7 times a day. The other about once every other day.

What can it be? I can't figure it out.

Sounds like the Windows Key is being pushed too. But you say it isn't and you say it isn't stuck. One all newer computers Win98+ If you push Windows Key + those letters mentioned above you will open those different applications.

If it's not the keyboard, then is it a setting that needs to be changed or a "VIRUS"? Why don't you goto and run a free scan and see how it comes up.

do you have the "stickyKey" function disabled in the Accessibility area of W98? Michael Phipps

Where would I locate this "stickykey" function? I'm hoping that this will solve my problem.

Where is the accessibility area?

TIA.

Ahh, never mind I found it.

I'll try it & see.

If the accessibility function is being activated, I take it that it's a key command? (not sure, I don't use it) but is it possible that it can be activated in a DOS window?

there is a key command to do it. best guess as to what that would be- try
I don't think you can do it in DOS as I can't think of a benefit to it there... Michael Phipps
