Strange Kernal Error message

Hi Folks,

I am trying to install oracle 8.1.7 on AIX 4.3.3 on pseries box 6E1 but when I try and run the pre-installation os preparation programme I get an error message regarding to kernal.

Any idea what it means?

# /mnt/cdrom/rootpre.sh

Installing kernel extension...
/mnt/cdrom/rootpre.sh[193]: ./loadext: not found.
nkext ver: 127

/mnt/cdrom/rootpre.sh[203]: ./loadext: not found.
Pkext ver: 127
/mnt/cdrom/rootpre.sh[206]: ./loadext: not found.
is not loaded : 127
Post-wait kernel is currently loaded on the machine.

Existing kernel extension is same as the new one.

Looks as though you need to 'cd' to /mnt/cdrom and then run ./rootpre.sh. It's looking for loadext in your pwd but is not finding it because your not under /mnt/cdrom.

Give it a try, should work.

Hi Chuck

I am afraid taht is not the case, I had already mounted the cd and ran the rootpre.sh when I got the above error.

Rebooted the box and tried again, no luck.

This is the strangest kernal error messages I have every received and there is just no explanation for it.

I agree with cspilman. If you really look at the errors, it does appear that the rootpre.sh (on lines 193, 203 and 206 of the script) is looking for loadext in your pwd. If you did not cd into /mnt/cdrom (as the Oracle instructions say to) to run this script you might run into your problem.
