Strange Internet Explorer Problem

I cannot open internet explorer through any of the usual methods (the Desktop icon, the start menu icon, iexplore.exe, or the command line). The only way that I can access the program is through opening a Windows Explorer window and typing the adress in there. However, this method, aside from being annoying, doesn't work that well, since any links that open a new window also fail. The error message is not descriptieve, but this is the Error Signature: [AppName: iexplore.exe; AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106; ModName: winshow.dll; ModVer: 1.0.0.6; Offset: 0000a95e]. I have anti-virus programs installed, and I have run scans, but nothing showed up. I also tried system restore to when I know it was working, but that failed also.

So, any help would be appreciated. I'm using Mozilla for now, but I have some classes that require IE, so I'll be checking back frequently.

You've got malware issues. Winshow is a BHO/hijacker. Have a look here: http://www.pestpatrol.com/PestInfo/w/winshow.asp

I'd suggest you download Hijack This! from here: Hijack This!
