I am having an issue on my fiance's pc. We are networked and sharing our DSL with Sygate Home Networking. We have been using the same setup for over a year now with no out-of-the-ordinary problems. She uses Hotmail for her email and has for the whole time. She uses Incredimail for her mail program and checks her email through it. Just recently, she began having problems sending any email, no matter the size. From 1K to 2MB, it would stop responding at about 84%. Then it would give an error. Don't ask me what the error was. She didn't write it down like I have preached to her to do and I never got the error. I checked the settings and attempted to send several test emails with no luck. Deleted and recreated her account. No luck. Set her up in Outlook Express. Attempted to send 1 test email. Went to 100% and stayed there for about 2 minutes. Then Request Timed Out. Grrrr... I opened up Internet Explorer and surfed to Hotmail Web site. Entered her username and password and waited, and waited, and waited. Tried with my seldom-used hotmail account. Still waiting. Checked Privacy Settings, Ran Norton. . Ran AdAware.
She is running WinXP Pro with SP1, IE6 with all updates. Can surf to any site on the web. Checked everything on my pc. Works fine. Problem is not with her account.
If anyone can help me with this problem, I will be extremely happy. She is driving me crazy insisting on checking her email every 10 minutes ON MY PC!!

Have you installed a firewall at all as this can cause your issue.

And I am pressuming she can send fine from the account if she actually logs in via IE?

Thanks for the quick response Spirit. No firewall. When she goes to the hotmail site, she can enter her username and password. Then the page goes white and says 'Opening page...." I checked the privacy settings. Everything seems perfect. Can access her email with no problem on my pc. Also having the same issue with Yahoo webmail. Juno webmail is no problem. I can send and receive emails through her Bellsouth email address with Incredimail, Outlook, or Outlook Express but Hotmail doesn't do anything.Ran System File Checker, Cleared all cookies, Temp files and Temporary Internet files, reinstalled Outlook Express, Uninstalled Incredimail, ran regcleaner, Oh yeah. She can't check her Bellsouth email online either. Only through an email client. Strange and nerve-racking.

Thanks smah. Everything checks out fine on the Browser check. Grrrr. Update since last night. Got a small part of the problem fixed. I can send email through outlook express now by changing my smtp server. I have no clue what to do about the incoming server. Still can't get to yahoo mail or hotmail.

Just got more interesting. I went to my.msn.com and it showed her welcome page. 'Welcome Linda' at the top.
Tried to go to hotmail through the link on that page. Same blank page.

It still sounds like one of the 'secure site' problems. Is the date & time correct on the problem machine?

I appreciate all you are suggesting smah. I would be asking you to do the same things. I was actually on that same page last night and tried everything. One strange thing. I think I am missing a dll file. Got no response when trying to register one file. I am reinstalling Service Pack 1 for Windows XP now. Can't hurt I guess. Will keep you posted. If you think of anything else please let me know. Thanks

The only other thing that I can suggest is to meticulously follow steps 1-4 of faq608-4650.

Tried everything in the faq with no luck. Got aggrevated. Transferred all of her data to my pc and reformatted. Can now check her hotmail in incredimail and outlook express but cannot check it through any browser. I was able to sign in one time to hotmail.Graphics on the page were really low and all of the fonts were generic. Got an error, not a script error like i have ever seen but it had the same characteristics. Line 15 Char 1 Object expected. Status Bar showed error on page. Checking that out now.

oh yeah. And I got in yahoo with no problem.

well you know that if you reformatted her computer that you have to reload all of the drivers over again.. I don't know if you tried this before, but did you check your system for the lastest updates to IE before you did a reforemat?? just checking..
