I have a report that groups by customer_order.ID with this same field in the detail
section. One of my groups is for customer order 10280. This customer order shows
in the detail section, followed by a DIFFERENT customer order 10351. This order is
in the wrong group. Also tried this - have customer_order.ID in the detail section
'suppress if duplicated' and the wrong customer order of 10351 will be suppressed. It
is like this order thinks it is a different number than it actually is. Any suggestions?

Delete and re-add the group.

Double check that you don't have two different fields that have the same name.

What database platform are you connecting to? Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting

It is definitely the same database/same field. My database is on SQLBase. I am using verison 8 of Crystal. One thing I left out of my original post - the customer order ID's all have a prefix of C01- before the number.

Well it shouldn't occur, so you have something strange.
I take it you deleted and re-added the group (not undo) and got the same result.

If so, then try this, create a formula field that is just that one field, and group on the formula instead of the field. This usually prevents the SQL indexes from messing things up. Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting

I hadn't tried deleting and adding the group. This seemed to help - sort of. The grouping seems to work, but when I choose 'suppress if duplicated' on the customer_order.ID field in the detail section, it still suppresses 10351. I created a formula just containing the customer_order.ID field and same strange results. I am starting to think there is something wrong with this customer order but can't seem to find anything that looks off.

Did you put the formula on the detail band and try "suppress if duplciated" on the formula?

I am not sure I understand exactly what you are experiencing, but if you are grouping you usually don't need the 'suppress if duplicated' since you can put this field in the GH and only see it once per group. Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting

Since I am having problems with my groups I hid the group header and then was using the detail section customer_order.ID as a sort of artificial group header by suppressing the duplicates. I did try the formula in the detail section - same results.

And if you use the regular group header what happens? Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting

It sounds like you're using Visual. I would take a look at the actual record in whatever program it's from. Maybe there is a problem with it there? Is this the only one that is causing the problem?
