Hi,

I have configured sendmail to use MS Exchange. However, it will only works if i use /etc/resolv.conf. By doing so, i found that my system cannot will not read /etc/hosts file.
Meaning, some of the hosts defined in HOSTS cannot be ping using hostname. But disabling RESOLV.CONF everything will back to normal - but can't sendmail again.
Pls advise .

Hi rjdscs,

Pls look at below log,

# ping ultra5
PING ultra5: 64 byte packets
64 bytes from 192.168.1.147: icmp_seq=0. time=0. ms
64 bytes from 192.168.1.147: icmp_seq=1. time=0. ms

----ultra5 PING Statistics----
2 packets transmitted, 2 packets received, 0% packet loss
round-trip (ms) min/avg/max = 0/0/0
# mv /etc/resolv.bak /etc/resolv.conf
# ping ultra5
ping: unknown host ultra5
# cat /etc/resolv.conf
nameserver 192.168.1.10

# mv /etc/resolv.conf /etc/resolv.bak
# ping ultra5
PING ultra5: 64 byte packets

# uname -a
HP-UX sakura B.11.00 U 9000/785 2016365696 unlimited-user license

I also try to edit RESOLV.CONF to this way,
domain mydomain.com
nameserver 192.168.1.10

Somehow after setting the DNS, the system do not read the hosts file anymore !

Thank you for your attention .

Hi folks

I have just solved my problem. There is some priorty settings for name resolution. Just create a /etc/nsswitch.conf file. Put this parameter ,
hosts: files

That's all !

Cheers :>))))
