This has happened twice so far. while watching an AVI movie in the DivX 5.0.4 player, the screen goes black, and the computer will no longer work. I can shut it down manually, leave it powered off for a few minutes, and it will not boot.

win98SE, Duron 950 chip, with 256 MB RAM

Power is on, you can hear the fans whirring, but there are no POST beeps, no hard drive or CD-Rom activity. nothing.

First time it happened, I was playing movie from my Burner, and after putting burner in 2nd PC to eject CD, and putting it back in original Pc, the computer started working again. I assumed it was a loose connection somewhere inside that I may have nudged.

Has anyone ever heard of this isuue before?

You might want to try swapping your video card and see if it still happens.

Well, I left the system alone for a while, and then when I tried it a few hours later, it started working again. I never had to do anything to fix it. I'm wondering it something became overheated. I have an extra 80mm case fan very close to my CPU, as well as the CPU fan working properly. My video card is a regular 4 MB AGP card, no special cooling required. I haven't had the problem persist long enough to try changing the video card, and don't have another AGP card to try right now anyway.

If someone thinks it might be a heating issue, I'll set an extra fan in, maybe rig up an arm on it so it blows right across the video card. Oh, and what about possible dust buildup inside the computer? Maybe causing a short of something?

"I have an extra 80mm case fan very close to my CPU" this fan is prob mounted on back of case. Is it blowing in or out?? I thought I would make my system run cooler if I blew air in the back and out the front, BUT I ended up with Very high temps moving the air that way. When I reversed the air flow (from front to back) I obtained very acceptable temps. Onlt thing I could come up with was the fan was moving the air tooo fast and the CPU fan was not getting air to push down. If your IDE cables are secured up so that air flow is from bottom front to top back, it should be enough.

To clean I use compressed air and one of my wifes Blush Brushes (makeup) Then suck up the heavy debris with a vaccum

Good Luck
