Last night my PC locked up and when I finally got it to reboot I got a Dialog box on my screen with the following message : "To test your e-mail connection, please enter your e-mail password". There was a box for me to enter the password and two buttons "OK" and "Cancel". The title bar of the dialog box says "Login to your E-mail account... - Web Page Dialog" This appeared when NetHelp was loading - an annoying little diagnostic tool from BT-Yahoo that I can't get rid of - but it has never been seen before. I obviously know better than to enter a genuine password into mysterious boxes so I entered a false one which it was happy to accept. Anyone come across this before? Is it malicious or a new feature of NetHelp?

it's probably best to call bt(if it's broadband) on 150, navigate your way through their telephone menu system to broadband help. They should be able to tell you if it's a legit file or not, and how to resolve it.

Have you tried booting into safe mode and uninstalling the bt-yahoo internet drivers. restart (in normal mode) and re-install them. It may just be corrupted drivers and this should fix it if it is. Make sure you have your username/password available when you reinstall so that you can login to the net.

If it annoys Microsoft then it's worth doing, and doing well!!

andielangley,

It could also be some piece of malware that's spoofing the title bar. It wouldn't hurt to run Spybot, Ad-Aware, or an Anti-Virus just to rule it out.
