Strange Dialing tone on call pick-up 1

During a recent installation we noticed a strange dialing tone on call pickup(like someone was speed dialing when you picked up an incoming call). This only stopped when I took all extensions out of hunt group 7.Why?
Also how can I get the phones to pick up a line when you lift the headset, right now you have to hit the line button? I know there is an easy answer but i didn't have the full manual.

because hunt group 7 is the voicemail and only the voicemail. The DTMF tones you heard are called inband signalling and these tones tell the voicemail the information where the call is coming from and where it is supposed to go.
Changing the Auto Line Select
Feature 0 0
left intercom twice
right intercom once enter the extension number you want to make changes to
press * *
push the line buttons and Intercom buttons in the order you would like it being picked up
press * * again
left intercom
right intercom next extension
press * *
and so on
