Hi Folks,

Having rebuilt two database programs with the fantastic help of these boards, I have one query that remains a mystery.

Code:
BROWSE FIELDS DATE,IN,OUT,NAME,CHNO,CLEARED FREEZE CLEARED WIDTH 20

What does the command FREEZE do ? I can find no reference to it at all !

Any clues ?

The following is from the dBase 5.0 language reference as an option to the BROWSE command.

'FREEZE confines you to one field or column in the file. If the field has been made read-only, you may not edit it. Other fields in the field list or database file table can display on the screen if they fit, but aren't subject to editing.
FREEZE does not affect the EDIT command. If you switch to Edit mode, the cursor will no longer be confined to a particular file. If you switch back to BROWSE mode, FREEZE will again be in effect.'

Freeze is a parameter to the browse command as far back as dBase II

Following is from the dBase III+ Help File: "FREEZE Edits a single Field".
