Since our charter for MAI is, "...words we use and how we use them...Light-hearted discussions on words, word usage, grammar, and related topics...", I thought I would run past you these "words" and their usage and see if anyone can explain their (mis)behaviour:
Code:
1) Open a "Notepad" session on your Windows computer.

2) Type in these words (in lower case, without the quotes):

"[b]this app can break[/b]"

3) Save and close the file.

4) Re-open the file.

5) Explain to us the (mis)behaviour.

Apparently this has been around for a while. Strange.

[Cheers]

And this happens only on the first save.

Re-open the file, re-type the words, or paste them, save again, and it will behave as supposed.

Thanks, Barb and CBL, for explanations of this "Bizarrity".

I played around with it and EditPlus (which doesn't have this problem) for a while and had concluded it was likely a unicode issue. I came back here to post that guess and found I was right, but too late.

I also managed to somehow get Notpad to save something (apparently in broken Unicode) that EditPlus couldn't interpret properly and so displayed as alternating null or non-english characters and the actual characters, but I can't remember what I did to produce that error. Obviouly this isn't the only bug in Notepad though. That's only one of the reasons I don't use it (the others being that their are MUCH better text editors out there for as cheap (free) or very little cash.

Aw; it opens up exactly as it was saved, here.

Carlsberg don't run I.T departments, but if they did they'd probably be more fun.

Strange indeed.... if you open the same doc with WordPad everything works
Looks like a censorship in Notepad not allowing "doubts on the functionality of Microsoft products"
