I was watching a user on a Windows 98 machine who suddenly developed problems. She logs into a 2000 domain, and it looks like the 2000 server is running a logon script and copying profile information over before the desktop loads. The first time she logged on, she was able to run MS Word, Access and Excel 2000 with no problems. She was also able to logon to a Windows 2000 pc without problems.
After shutting down the pc and restarting, she was prompted for her Windows password ( win 98) after logging in to the 2000 domain. This was odd since she had not changed it.. but she hit cancel and was unable to run Office applications .I went into DOs and deleted the PWL file from c:\windows, which allowed her to logon to the domain and reset her Windows password. But she still cannot run any office applications. She gets a windows installer error - the program that opens this file has not been installed. ALso the office shortcuts are missing from her Programs Menu. The odd thing is, she can still log on the the Windows 2000 pc and run Office Applications - so you would think if her server-side profile had changed, she would not be able to do that.
Can anyone explain what is going on ?
