I have a computer that is on the inside interface and needs to send data to a printer on the outside interface. I have no translations for this printer and 1 access rule (to access port 9100).
Here is the strange behavior
* After a time of about 15 minutes, data is no longer sent to the printer. I can verify this using Etherpeek connected to a hub by the printer. When I look in the firewall log, I see a TCP session being created, but it is never transmitted to the outside interface.
Now here is where it gets weird.
** If I use the PDM to ping the printer, I get no response (I tried both the no selected interface and selecting the outside interface).
**When I do a sho arp, there is an entry for the ip address of the printer and the associated mac.
**If I ping the printer from some other computer on the same segment as the printer, the firewall starts transmitting data to the printer. For a note, the firewall, printer, and 4 computers are all connected to a hub.
Any ideas?? It appears I have some strange ARP thing going on.
One final note, I used to have a translation for this printer, but I have removed it. Should I reboot the firewall?
