Hi all ,

Got a home user that connects to his head office via a constant sonic wall firewall unit , the IP phone is connected directly into port x3 on the sonicwall.

system IPO500 6.1(504)phone is a 5610 upgraded to latest firm ware.

This system has 30 other ip phones connected to it at a remote location that sit and work fine , this is the second phone sent out to the home user but it just reboots after half registering for 30 secs.(by this i mean it shows extn number but has no dial tone then reboots)

Unfortunatly the IT company is not us ,the tech on thre sider is telling me it is a true VPN with no packet inspection but im convinced its the sonicwall and not the phone any ideas !!!

Thanks in advance.

Sonicwall being the keyword here, they are garbage and always cause issues with sych connections. Prove it by creating a VPN tunnel on your own kit (just not sonicwall) with his credentials :)

Thats what i want to do,, the other 30 phones connect through lan 1 on the kit , but we installed drayteck routers at both ends with managed lines and never a problem happens.

Only this damm sonic wall seems to cause an issue any other things i can try or anybody know of any docs that point to the sonic walls creating issues that i can send the IT Firm as they are doing the its nothing to do with us mate trick.

Ok update ,

Provided the IT firm with all the ports that the ip phones use "for the second time",,guess what this true vpn tunnel that does not inspect packets or block ports was identified via an inbuilt packet sniffer on the sonicwall that traffic on port 1720 was being blocked,

phone now working for now......!

By default, Sonicwall vpn tunnels will not block any ports. But you must make sure to disable the Ssetting on the sonicwall that allows h.323 transformations.

Might be just me but by the sounds of it all sonicwalls be banned , burnt , hung drawn and quartered and tried under witch craft law! :)

And as for IT well.............what wondfull chaps you all are

amriddle01 you are really against sonicwall, I imagine it's with good reason and from experience. I guess I'm lucky and haven't had any issues with them yet. I have VPN phones registered with them just fine, also have sonicwall point to point VPN connections with IP phones riding over them fine.

What VPN routers do you recommend for SME comparable to a sonicwall TZ200? I've never worked with any DrayTek equipment. Any suggestions? (I try to stay away from Netgear and Linksys VPN crap.) Thanks.

For true VPN gateways there is a list on KB that avaya support , but Draytecks are a decent quality router that provides 32 VPNs never had one isssue ever ,dont know what other people think about Drayteck but i reckon they are ok for the price.

We use Drayrek quite a bit, as long as you run the right firmware you are good (some later firmwares can mess with SIP even when told not to, but can be downgraded) and rarely cause issues. Cisco is good gear, but more expensive. :)
