Good morning,

I have tried to copy my Notes E-Mail Database .NSF file to a CD. I first ran replication to create a local copy on my hard drive. Since I did not have a burner, I then copied my file to a public area on our network(NT).

I burned the .NSF file directly onto a blank CD.

I put the newly created CD into my CD drive, logged into Notes E-Mail, and did a File, Databaase, Open. It opened with no trouble, BUT I can not display certain folders.

Folders that will display are: Inbox, Sent, Attachments.

Folders that DO NOT WORK are:Drafts, All Documents, Rules, Stationary. I get an error message: "Can not write or create file(File or Disk is read only).

Is there some special way that I have to copy the .NSF file to a CD?

Thank you very much for your help.

You need to create all of the views before writing it to the CD. Notes creates views as you open folders. Since a CD-ROM cannot be written to once its created. What you need to do is open your mailbox and build all the views by pressing CTRL + SHIFT + F9

I would do it a few times just in case

Maybe I am doing something wrong.

I created those views by going into my replication copy on my hard drive. I did the CTRL+SHIFT+F9

Now, do I still copy the .NSF file, or do the views create another file(s) that I copy to the CD?

Thanks again.

no that should do it. As I said you might need to create the views a few times but I do it here and it works fine. Is your mailbox the same version as the version of notes you are using ?

IE is your mailbox version 4 and your client version 5

Thanks Jackdaw for your suggestions, but even after I create the views, I still can not read certain folders. The past couple of weeks, I have been pulled away on other projects, but will try it again today.

I thought that you had to copy the nsf file from cd to system, and take off read only attribute (such as attrib -r). Am I incorrect on this?

Thanks for all of the responses. Believe it or not, it finally worked for me, but I can not make it work all the time. I'm thinking it may either be the burner, or the CD's I am using.
Before I burn the e-mail file onto the CD, I do that CTRL+SHIFT+F9 five times, just in case.
Thanks again for your help.

When you copy a file to a CD it becomes Read Only. Try copying the file from the CD to your hard drive and then open Explorer and go into the Properties of the file. Remove the Read Only attribute and click OK. Try accessing the file again.

Hi Horna,
When you create a copy or a replica from the CD you burned, You need to untick the "READ Only" check box in the filename properties. Open your windows explorer then select the filename of your db's local copy/Replica, Right click and select properties. Untick the READ ONLY check box under General TAB.
