Is it possible to store files (of type excel, word, etc) in a Sybase table
Is it recommended
What are the alternatives other than just saving the path to the file

hello,

i don't know the extent of your project...

why don't you try fulcrum search server database to store your files or documents and use sybase to store the path and filenames...

q.

I am trying to save files uploaded via a web site and assigned to data already saved in a database on a "client ID" basis

Many Thanks

there is a new thing coming with sybase 12.5 . it is called Externel file mamnagement.
For now you can link a external file to sybase table and read the content of the file. On 14 version, they are going to support read and write to the file. and more over backup of the file also with sybase database.
