I am setting up a sharepoint server and our opperations manager has stated he wants the Documents in the library to be stored on a remote server.

Is this possible in SharePoint or with IIS?

Thanks!

Hello,

All information and documents are also stored in the SQL. I do not see that you would be able to store the documents on a remote server not running SharePoint.

Ahh okay, I can see that being a problem.

Would it then be possible to run the SQL server on another box?

Matt

Hello,

Yes you can run the SQL on another box, that is not a problem. What you will have to do when installing Sharepoint is to use the /remotesql=yes parameter when doing the installation of SharePoint. You can find all the information you need in:

SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Administrators Guide

Windows SharePoint Services Administrators Guide

I am running my SharePoint installation on one server and host the databases in a SQL cluster which are setup on a separate box.

You can however add a networkplace to a Document Library through a UNC path to the Webserver where you have SharePoint installed and find the documents.
(\\UNC\document_library_name\). But I am quite sure you can't place those document libraries on a remote server and have SharePoint to find them.

Regards,
Thomas
