Hi,
Quick question.
I was under the impressiont that when an attachment is circulated on outlook 2003 only one copy of the attachment is stroed on the server and everyone who receives that attachment is "pointed" to it. ie. If a large joke attachment does the rounds it will be stored centrally and "shouldnt" crash your servers! is this right? or does it get duplicated everytime someone sends it on?

sorry for not being the most technical of questions, hope it makes sense

You are talking about Exchange's Single Instance Storage technology. It has been in place since Exchange 5.5. It works pretty much like you described, except that in large organizations that have created multiple message stores on single servers, SIS isn't quite SIS anymore, since it has to keep at least one copy of the attachment for each store.

So long story short, a large attachment making the rounds of a company on Exchange2003 does not get stored more than a handful of times on the servers even if distributed to hundreds of people.
