storing a string which includes quotations 1

hello there
i am trying to store a string <?xml version="1.0"?>

i've tried

string word;

word = "<?xml version="1.0"?>";

but this didn't work, i guess becuse of quotations conflicts.
are their any suggestions????

Escape the ", like so

word = "<?xml version=\"1.0\"?>";
