What is the most efficient way to query a database. Should you use stored procedures or can you rely on cfquery with cachedwithin to be just as fast

Thanks. I have read that enterprise websites tend to use <cfstoredproc> over <cfquery> Why is this and is it advisable to convert?

stored procs are faster than the equivalent queries

however, i don't think you can cache the results of a stored proc (unless you do so yourself in session variables or summat)

that's the great thing about cached queries -- coldfusion doesn't call the database at all during the cached period, and not calling the database at all is way faster than any stored proc is ever going to be
