Hi,
I have put a new package into the database. This package is being constantly called by a C++ program. We have 6 sessions allocated for this program. When this program is made to run for a prolonged period of time then the database just crashes. Has anybody had any such experience?
We are running 8.1.7 version of the Oracle on a Sun Solaris box.
Any suggestions ans solutions are appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

If the program has crashed, there should be a trace file produced (or at least a message in the alert log). The trace file will be in the directory pointed to by the USER_DUMP_DEST init.ora parameter. You should look at this and perhaps send it to the Oracle help desk.

Hi,

sorry for he late reply but I have been absent a while.

Actuallly I know this behaviour from 8.1.7 only when you are not running the latest patch-level! Please patch your database at least up to 8.1.7.2.

We have had this behaviour with Java-sessions being persisitent, that do not get closed. After a while the max_sessions is reached and the database stoped, also we have had this with the memory leaks of 8.1.7.0 and 8.1.7.1!

Hope this helps
