Store.exe taking up to much cpu

I am running Exchange 2003 on Server 2003 and every now and then the CPU usage jumps up to 90% and stays there causing the server to run very slow. Upon checking into it store.exe is using up most of the CPU usage.

We can stop and start the information store the the CPU usage then goes back down.

Does anyone know what could be causing this to happen.

It is Exchange doing something. Stopping and restrting the IS is going to stop the task for sure, but you need to work out what it is doing - indexing is a possibility.
